HTLOOP COMMUNITY LISTENING PANEL - JANUARY 25, 2024

As part of our strategic planning, a panel of three guests will discuss the changes, challenges, and opportunities facing the South Loop neighborhood and the role of religious communities in addressing these needs. As we welcome Sharai Jacobs as our new pastor, we hope all HTLoop members (along with Grace Episcopal) will attend. Panelists will include Alderman Lamont Robinson, Dennis McLendon of South Loop Neighbors, Jamie Brown from the District One Police Council.

We hope that as we usher in an exciting time of opportunity with the addition of Associate Pastor Sharai Jacob, all members of the HTLoop community and our South Loop neighbors will join us for this important event.

If you are sixteen or older, whether new or familiar to the Holy Trinity community, please take 15 minutes to take this anonymous survey. To more accurately assess the opinions of our community, there are separate surveys for each Holy Trinity location.

As part of Holy Trinity’s strategic planning, it is important we know the issues and challenges facing our neighborhood and community. A panel of three guests will discuss the changes, challenges, and opportunities facing Lakeview and neighborhoods north of us, and the roles of religious communities in addressing these needs. We hope all HT members will attend. HTLoop Community Listening panel to be planned for a later date.

the panelists:

Alderman Bennett Lawson

is a lifelong public servant, having served the people of the 44th Ward as Chief of Staff to Alderman Tom Tunney for nearly 15 years. He’s become known in the community as someone who is trusted to get things done. As your Alderman, he will bring unmatched experience, relationships, and knowledge of the community to continue strong, steady leadership for the 44th Ward while continuing to advocate for safe and welcoming neighborhoods, balanced development, quality public education, and a more inclusive, transparent government.

In November of 2013, CNN Money Magazine named Lakeview the third best big-city neighborhood in the country. While Lakeview will always be number one to me, it is a wonderful recognition and showcases many of the things that make our neighborhood so great. Whether it be our close proximity to Lake Michigan, our endless entertainment options including first class theaters, concert venues, restaurants and Wrigley Field or the accessibility to public transportation and many local parks, Lakeview has so much to offer residents and visitors alike.

jenny shaffer |19th district police council

is a mom to three kids who attend Chicago Public School in North Center. As a former special education teacher, she understands what it takes to be a strong advocate for her community. She is the founder and leader of the antiracism group for parents at her kids’ elementary school; became active with Embarc, a nonprofit which provides experiential learning curriculum in underserved CPS schools to allow students to tap into the power of their potential; and leads her synagogue’s Public Safety Justice Team. As District Council member, Jenny works to uplift and advocate for innovative strategies to make our neighborhoods safer.

jesse hoyt | Executive director, one northside

is a lifelong Chicagoan, raised in Ravenswood. He currently lives in Albany Park with his wife, Mary Claire. With more than a decade of experience in political, community and issue-based organizing, Jesse has worked at the local, statewide and national levels. He has worked on issue-based campaigns, including the fight to win temporary drivers’ licenses for the undocumented Illinoisans and the Healthy Illinois campaign, which successfully expanded Medicaid for undocumented seniors in Illinois. He has also campaigned to elect progressive candidates in Chicago and central Illinois. When he isn’t organizing Jesse enjoys spending time hiking, playing soccer and exploring the city with his dog, Odis.
